Queen Mothers from the Techiman Traditional Council were crowned winners of the maiden “Onga Techiman Cooks Challenge”.
The competition formed part of the One Year Anniversary Celebration of Radio Link.
Held on Thursday, 10th June, 2021 at the Sunyani Station in Techiman, the colourful event featured six contestants, with both the Techiman Queen Mothers and Holy Family Midwifery and Nursing Training presenting three each.
The “Techiman cooks competition” was aimed at bridging the gap between the young and the old through the promotion of Ghanaian cuisine under the theme “Promoting local foods in a Covid-19 era, the Onga wasy,” the event was full of drama and passion.
Each of the groups were assigned to cook any of their prefered local dish in forty-five minutes.
There was music to entainment and Miski products available for sampling by observers which saw several cups of delicious Miski Choco and Miski Powder being enjoyed by people who were mainly market women.
After the 45mins of intensed frying steaming, boiling, pounding and all, Queen mothers from the Techiman Traditional Council who prepared fufu with ‘abunuabunu’ soup won the ultimate prize.
The contestants took home cash prizes, rice cooker, blender as well as products and souvenirs from the title sponsor, Onga.
This year’s “Techiman Cook Competition” was the first of its kind in Techiman and it was put together by Radio Link and Onga, Ghana’s market leader in food seasoning.
Speaking after the event, the Marketing Management for Promasidor Ghana Limited in Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions, Samuel Quaye expressed his delight about the event adding that “I am highly impressed about the event and commended Radio Link for the partnership”.
“The reception from the people particularly the women in Techiman has been overwhelming. The smiles on the faces of all the contestants shows how passionate they are about the program.”
He expressed gratitude to the market women for their continuous support to the Onga brand.
He promised consumers to expect should expect more of such exciting events and products from the Onga brand and Promasidor Ghana Limited.
For his part, the Acting General Manager for Radio Link, Kwame Boakye-Sremah also commended the people of Techiman for their continued support for RADIO LINK.
“We are just a year old and I must say that the people of Techiman have really accepted our radio and we are forever grateful” he noted.
He further assured them of the resolve of Directors, Management and Staff to continue providing quality programming and events to ensure the expectations of listeners will always be met.
He hinted that RADIO LINK has a lot to offer in the coming years and urged the listeners to keep listening.
