The Bono East Regional officer for Ghana Revenue Authority Mr. Charles Antwi Bosiako has reveal that every year the GRA is given a target to achieve through tax mobilization.
He said, this year alone the Bono East has given GH.21,245,371.40.00 to cover from January to December, adding this amount has been decentralize to the various districts who also report to the Regional Office for assessment.
Mr. Antwi Bosiako also said some taxes are direct and others are indirect.
“One way or the other we all pay to contribute to the development of the nation.”
Asked on achieving their target in the first quarter, he said, due to COVID-19, from January to March, which is the first quarter, they couldn’t achieve their target for the 2021 but in the month of April they were able to exceed their monthly target and hoping it continue.
Mr. Bosiako added their men face lots of challenges when they go out to register people who are eligible to pay tax. “Most of the people want to continue enjoy the tax stamp which is for startups in the business environment whiles most people who are to pay for Value Added Tax (VAT) are also not willing to register and pay but GRA is in talks with those paying since they don’t want to use force the collection.”
He finally advised the people of Bono East to contribute to the development of the country by paying taxes since they are used to build hospitals, schools, roads etc. and without that government cannot bring development.
Mr. Bosiako also urged that if anyone is having difficulty in paying they negotiate with such people to make it flexible in terms of paying.
