The celebration of this year’s Mother’s Day brought smiles unto the faces of hundreds of women in Tanoso in the Techiman South Constituency of the Bono East Region as Radio Link, the leading private media firm in the region in collaboration with MIKAM Foundation and other partners registered over 500 mothers unto the National Health Insurance Scheme [NHIS].
Speaking at the programme, the Acting General Manager of Radio Link Alex Boakye-Sremah noted that the choice of Tanoso was to show appreciation to the community for accepting the brand, which has brought dynamism into the radio business in the region and beyond.
“I quite remember that when we started Radio Link, our first outside community broadcasting took place in this community and the support we received was massive. Since then, they have stayed with the station and this is our way of saying thank you” he noted.
According to him, the registration of mothers unto the National Health Insurance Scheme is the surest bet to quality healthcare.
Adding that, good health guarantees better life and therefore supporting the women to have NHIS cards is one of the ways of ensuring a healthy society.
“We chose the registration and renewal of expired cards because health is wealth and we ought to guard it with our all. With health insurance cards, I can now confidently say that the people can attend hospital knowing they have no financial worries” he emphasized.
The Techiman Municipal Health Insurance Manager Mr. Benjamin Gyarko commended the people for coming in their numbers to access the service being offered by Radio Link for free.
He added that being on the scheme means that some ill conditions which mostly led to complications could now be sent to the hospital for assessment and treatment. He was optimistic that the people present at the programme will have all their issues regarding new registrations, renewals and replacements sorted.
He advised those with expired cards and the new entrants to wait for a month before using their cards to access free health care.
