Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong says together with the police and National Security, he has gone far with investigations to arrest the killers of the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency, Ekow Kwansah Hayford.
Visiting the bereaved family to commiserate with them at Mankessim in the Central Region on Monday, October 12, Ken Agyapong called for calm, assuring them that the perpetrators will soon be rounded up.
He said no one should point to armed robbers as behind the heinous crime particularly when only one person – the lawmaker – was killed in a spree that saw about eight cars stopped.
He said a so-called eye witness, who has been speaking to the media since the incident occurred on Friday, October 9, is making matters worse for investigators.
The outspoken politician said that “guy” was not at the scene but parading himself as being there and “I am giving him his last warning not to speak again”.
“Other than that he will be the first suspect,” he warned in local language Twi.
He said that so-called eye witness should shut up as police are on the heels of the perpetrators, who were contracted to carry out the murder, he alleged.
“I beg all of you to leave the matter for us and we will deal with it and I know God will help us,” he told the family.
The Mfantseman MP was attacked by suspected armed robbers on the Abeadze Dominase-Mankessim road in the early hours of Friday while returning from a campaign trip.
He and his driver were shot at but he did not survive. The driver, who was initially reported dead, is responding to treatment
The eye witness had indicated that the lawmaker had attempted to identify himself as the MP for the area but the alleged robbers shot him multiple times in his stomach, claiming he is part of the hardship in the country.
